Revising My Game Plan

I have learned a lot as a result of my GAME plan. I enjoy engaging in professional growth and leadership. Making a point to talk with other teachers in regards to technology integration in the classroom has been beneficial. I have integrated technology into my content area on a more regular basis and my students seem to benefit from it. I still want to pursue this goal and continue to learn about ways students can benefit from technology.

My second goal was to promote and model digital citizenship. This is an ongoing process as I am continuing to encourage students to cite their sources as I model that in my classroom.

I would like to set a new goal that goes somewhat with my previous two goals. I want to facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity. I can do this by providing ways for my students to use technology to further their understanding of the content. If I stay up to date on creative ways to integrate technology in the classroom, then my students can benefit by using this technology to express their creativity.

A learning approach I can take to see this goal happen is to make sure I assign a classroom project that involves technology that will allow my students to show their understanding of the content in a creative way.

  1. Kara,

I like your new goal. I think it's so important for kids today to get as much exposure to using technology for educational purposes. One recommendation is to not try and do it all yourself. Do some searching online and see who else may have already created some of these integration projects. Even try to get on other state's pages, see if they have a listserv or forms, or wikis in which teachers are posting integration projects. I've found that so many teachers are willing to share thir sources for free, you just have to modify it to meet your needs.

I think your new goal is one of the most important goals for our students. They can be told left and right how to be creative, but in this age of technology, they need to experience the technology in different ways in order to learn how to be creative thinkers! If more than one teacher is using different online tools and technology, students will hopefully come to see that there are so many different ways to use technology. Hopefully, they will begin to thin of ways to use this technology on their own!

  3. I think your goals are awesome and "forcing" yourself to create assessments and lessons involving technology will only make your students more productive when they leave your classroom. Creativity is huge. Too many times we do everything for the kids and they are like robots. With new technologies, we should never teach the same things the same way every year. There is way too much out there for us to settle!

Sorry about my late post, we have been in and out of power the last two days and have gotten 14 inches of snow along with four foot snow drifts in my driveway as I type!

  4. Brett,

Thanks for the advice. Finding resources already out there definitely makes things easier for teachers.

    Bethanne,
I agree that if students can get exposure to different types of technology from different teachers, it will encourage them to become creative thinkers and hopefully they will be able to use technology on their own for educational purposes!

    Mike,
You are getting tons of snow! Wow! Yes, I often times want to control what my students do and if I just back off, it is amazing to see how creative they can be!
